If finalized, changes could reach plans before the end of 2027, with urgent reviews capped at 24 hours and standard reviews at 72.
Texas physicians welcomed faster timelines but said patients could still wait too long for medications, noting earlier rules had allowed decisions to take 15 days.
They also supported interoperability updates, saying modernized data exchange could reduce reliance on faxes, phone calls, and payer-specific portals during approval processes.
The group also backed better patient access to prior authorization information and data sharing between payers, saying smoother records movement supports continuity of care.
