Starting in Early-Q3, eligible federal health beneficiaries can access certain GLP-1 obesity drugs with a $50 monthly copay through a temporary benefit.
The new copay is far below >$1K monthly out-of-pocket costs and below current federal initiative prices ranging from $149 to $249 for patients.
Current drug coverage applies to conditions like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, or sleep apnea, but not weight loss alone under existing rules.
Eligibility depends on BMI and health history. Doctors must submit prior authorization confirming lifestyle counseling before pharmacies can fill prescriptions under the benefit.
The benefit is scheduled through Dec. 31, 2027; patients should confirm approval timing, side effects, drug interactions, and unusually low-price offers with trusted clinicians.
